Friday Morning Music – Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies

Each Friday, we kick off your morning with a series of music videos, loosely gathered around a theme. This week, we spotlight a concert happening right here in D.C. next week. Feast your eyes and ears on Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies!

Last week we dropped some knowledge about concerts Mr. Fantastic and I had recently seen, but this week we go one better. This coming Wednesday, I’ll be at The Black Cat to see Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies. Tickets are still available, but I hope this will change all that.

Me First is a supergroup, but one you’ve likely never heard of before now. They’re made up of Mike Burkett from NOFX, Spike Slawson of Swingin’ Utters, Chris Shiflett from Foo Fighters, and Joey Cape and Dave Raun, both from Lagwagon. With such a punk-rock pedigree, you might expect some hardcore tunes. HOLD UP, JACK. Me First is strictly a cover band, and it ain’t your grandpa’s cover band.

Instead, Me First does awesome punk rock covers of a variety of genre’s. Each of their six studio albums tackles a different time period or genre, from 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, country, even showtunes. They also did a live album at a bar mitzvah. See you all Wednesday night!
